Hello Parents and Educators,
Welcome to The Music Center's Spotlight program, a wonderful competition and amazing learning opportunity for high school students in the performing arts. We look forward to meeting your student and helping them grow as young artists.
Spotlight provides Southern California high school students of all skill levels a supportive environment that helps develop the skills needed to pursue their dreams onstage or offstage. With an emphasis on preparation, courage, critical thinking and perseverance, Spotlight offers students the opportunity to develop their performance abilities, learn about careers in arts management and receive valuable college preparedness and workforce readiness skills to pursue their dreams in the performing arts. Spotlight is an important part of The Music Center’s fundamental support for arts education.
Spotlight categories include acting, ballet, dance, classical instrumental, jazz instrumental, classical voice and non-classical voice.
The Spotlight audition process is designed to be a positive learning experience for high school students. As many universities, colleges, competitions and festivals are now requiring students to submit audition videos, The Music Center’s Spotlight program has adapted to this as well. Students are now required to apply via online video submissions for Preliminary 1 (First Round), with accessible video tutorials to help them with the upload process. Expert judges share written feedback with all student participants; they may offer specific suggestions about how the student can continue to improve in their art form. The students selected from their video submissions will advance to Preliminary 2 where in-person auditions will take place in front of a panel of judges.*
The Music Center’s Spotlight program is part of TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine that provides year-round programming on The Music Center campus as well as in schools and other locations all over Los Angeles County.
As a leader in arts education, The Music Center brings outstanding artists in music, dance, theatre and visual arts to schools to help spark the development of quality arts programs for all students.
