Arco Iris Artsource Unit
Peace Pipes and Soaring Over the High Plains
The music of the traditional cultures of the Americas is bright, joyous and lively. These are the qualities of Arco Iris, which means 'a musical rainbow.' Traditional music is combined with elements of jazz and pop. Lessons include learning a folk song and accompanying it with simple percussive patterns and guiding students in small groups to create original compositions that they will accompany with electronic, vocal and acoustic sounds. Universal themes of Transformation and Enduring Values are embedded throughout.
