The Brass Ring

The Pilobolus Dance Theater is unlike any other dance company.  It is an original, contemporary company that uses the body as sculptural material.  Its daring lifts, counterbalances, swinging mobiles and contact designs are created through an improvisational, collaborative process.  "The Brass Ring" premiered at the 2000 Olympic Games and weaves the themes of teamwork, competition and excellence throughout. The dance excerpt and lessons, most appropriate for grades 5 -12, feature physics principles and architectural concepts.  These applications to dance give step by step strategies for guiding students successfully through experiences that stress collaboration, improvisation and composition.  There are also many interdisciplinary connections to literacy. The universal themes for this unit are Transformation and The Human Family.
