Amalia Hernández Artsource Unit
Los Mitos, Danza De La Reata and Jarabe De Amor Ranchero (Excerpts)
Performed by Ballet Folklórico de México
Ballet Folklórico de México captures the heart and spirit of the Mexican people and their traditions through the pageantry and ritual of the indignous cultures before the arrival of the Spaniards. The company also depicts the influence of the Spanish and European cultures in creating a 'Mestizo' style. These video excerpts will thrill the viewer and inspire students to learn some of the traditional dances included in the lessons and accompanied by an audio of the corresponding music. Other lessons provide additional cultural information that enables students to enter into, and experience, this rich and textured culture. Themes of The Human Family and Transformation ground this unit with humanity and cultural understanding.
